Discovery

Yesterday was so much fun – I borrowed my good friend, Leanne’s, baby (her Canon 5D Mark ii), along with her zoom (70-200mm 2.8f) lens!  It was interesting to feel like I was just peeking in on the kids as they played in the yard, able to sit back and watch while they explored.  Baby Hyatt discovered a soccer ball and I was able to watch him through the play tunnel as he studied it and possibly pondered how to move it from point A to point B.  I loved the light in this first photo really highlighting that moment of discovery.

A couple of other photos I loved were from when he made it into the tunnel with the ball, and also when Evera was racing around the courtyard, pushing Hyatt in the car.  He reveled in the adventure for the most part, although there were a couple of moments where he showed a small bit of concern when he let go as he sped down the hill.  That’s one brave little guy!

The Mitchell Family

One of the things that I love most about being a photographer is the chance to meet some great people – and that’s what I got to do the other day when I did a photo session with Dawn, Doug, and their adorable little 7.5 month old, Kai.  We had a lot of fun in this new location that I discovered a couple of months ago with my kids… although Dawn and Doug, who live in San Francisco, thought it was a little funny that we were doing “urban” photos in small town Palo Alto!  Just goes to show that you can say and show whatever you want to in a photo – get a good brick wall, a metal staircase, and you’re set for and “urban” shoot!  I really appreciated how this family was up for anything, had such a great attitude, and allowed me to “play”!  Here are some of my favorite shots from the session… so hard to choose…

August Favourite Photo

One of the best places I’ve found for learning about photography and being inspired to continue to improve is a blog called Click It Up A Notch.  And I’ve decided that I’m going to start entering their monthly contest – the only rule in the contest being that the photo has to be from that month.  I think this will be a great way to push myself to review each month’s photos, see what worked and what didn’t as much, and continue to try new things!

It was really difficult to choose a favourite photo from August, because summer is full of great photo ops!  However, this one stood out to me, as I loved the angle of the light, and the blurred tree in the background, as well as the candid feel and emotion in it.

I am updating this post with a link to another blog, called Small Things with Love.  They are featuring photos of families this week, so here’s a photo of a wonderful family!

Isn’t She Lovely?

My sister, Lisa, is currently pregnant with her third child, and her first will be turning 3 in a week.  She and Jeremy will have their hands full… but full of wonderful things!  They live in Kamloops, BC, and the kids and I made a trip up from California to get to see the family before Kaiya’s school year gets into full swing and the new baby arrives.  This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to visit at this stage of my sister’s pregnancy, so we stole a few moments to take some photos (while our 5 kids ran wild at the park!).  Isn’t she lovely?!

The Le Family

It was such a joy to meet and spend time with this extended family!  With the grandparents, great-aunt, and aunt visiting all the way from Spain, it was a privilege to help them capture these moments together in the United States.
