Simply Radiant

It was friendship at first e-mail.  Mary Grace, or MG, is a friend of a friend, and for the last month or so, I was SO looking forward to getting to meet this lady!  She, too, is into photography, we both have sons named Lucas, we both love God, we both admire Beth Moore, we both love Cadbury Creme Eggs… need I say more?  I actually felt almost giddy and made a remark to my husband as I headed out the door to this shoot that I kind of felt like I was going on a first date or something to get to meet this lady who I had been corresponding with for a few weeks and had shared many “pins” with.  And sure enough, she did not disappoint.  So now I will share with you some of my favourite shots of MG in all her expectant radiance.

Manuela and Brian

When Manuela first contacted me to do engagement photos with her and Brian, she wondered if I would be able to travel to Napa to do the session.  So, we talked about it, and what came out was that she and Brian really like wine and vineyards – it’s where they started dating, and where they got engaged, so it was only fitting for their photos to be on location at a vineyard.  After some investigating, I found a couple of good options a little closer, in the Saratoga area, and we decided to meet up at Mountain Winery to do their engagement photo session.  I liked these two right from the start, enjoyed watching their chemistry, and loved hearing their story.  Now you can taste a little of that in the photos – feel free to sip a glass of wine while you enjoy this glimpse of love and vineyards.

Abigail

“Flower Petal” is the name Abigail’s older sisters, Kate and Lizzie, gave her while they watched her grow in their mummy’s tummy.  And she made her grand entrance on April 6th, after making us all wait an extra week.  It’s an extra treat for me when I get to take pictures of dear friends of mine, and I love that Dave and Kristina decided to do a natural, everyday look for their girls.  Saturday morning PJ’s, and then ballet leotards to follow.  One of the things I enjoyed most while editing the photos was the chance to see all of the expressions and attitudes on the faces and postures.  Some wonder at a new little sister, some cherishing of the baby, some tiredness, some joy, some silliness.  Welcome to this world, Abigail!  I’m looking forward to watching you grow and discover what life is all about.

Quinn

Quinn was born on Saturday, March 8, the third adorable little girl for Katie and Sean.  I got to go back to Escondido Village, the student housing at Stanford, to do this newborn session in their home, and was quite amazed by what they (I believe by “they”, it was probably mostly Katie’s handiwork) managed to do with the same space we lived in for 4 years.  I felt like I was stepping into a pinterest board!  Those of you photographers know, and the rest of you can imagine, that it can be a little bit intimidating going to a client’s home to do a photo session, sight unseen.  You never know what you’re going to get – what the setup will be like, the colours, and the light.  I was very pleasantly surprised both by their home, and by this family, too.  There was a quick connection, as Katie and Sean were also a military family, both Sean and my husband are academy grads (Air Force and Navy, respectively), and I must say I admire how together Katie was after having just given birth to her third a week earlier.

One more thing.  These girls!  Talk about some of the cutest girls I have ever seen!  Clare, Erin, and Quinn were all so sweet in their own ways, and it was such a treat to get to capture some images of them together as the older sisters bonded with their newest sibling.  Thanks for inviting me to share in this early time with Quinn!Quinn Ketterick b-4-2Quinn Ketterick b-3-2Ketterick newborn story 2Quinn Ketterick b-6Ketterick newborn story 3Quinn Ketterick b-5-2Ketterick newborn story 4Quinn Ketterick b-5Ketterick newborn story 5Quinn Ketterick b-15Ketterick newborn story 6Quinn Ketterick b-19Ketterick newborn story 7Quinn Ketterick b-3Ketterick newborn story 1Quinn Ketterick b-10Quinn Ketterick b-20Quinn Ketterick b-7
