Kids in the Kitchen

There’s a trap that some of us photographers who start a business fall into – and that is neglecting to document our own kids’ lives.  I still try and do photo sessions with my kids every so often, but capturing their everyday moments doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should.  So, I asked my friend, Lisa, to keep me accountable on this.  To try and get at least one good picture of each child each week.  I have to admit that part of my issue has been the ridiculous clutter that plagues our house.  Who wants pictures that remember the mess forever?

My brainwave was to clear one area of the house for the purpose of play time and some “natural” photos.  I picked an area with the light I wanted – the morning light, which happens to be great in our kitchen.  Another nice thing about kitchens is that they often have a lot of white space – especially if you happen to have white cupboards like I do.  I had one particular photo in mind that I wanted to take, which was Hyatt as he dragged his sleep slack around.  It’s one of his new favourite things to do.  I purposely took his pants off, because I wanted his little, chubby legs to help portray his 17 month age as he toddled through the kitchen with sleep sack in tow.  And voila!
